A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since that period of that year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and regular reactions on court had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an better service.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

He defended four initial opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
